Federico Ferri Sky Nuove Tecnologie E Qualita Nel Racconto Della Champions League

Federico Ferri (Sky): «New technologies and quality in the story of the Champions League»

Goal line technology and offside semi-automatic: here are the innovations introduced this year in the most important European football club competition.

«The Champions League is an increasingly competitive, engaging and global event. To tell it, we need to combine technological innovation with traditional reporting». The head of Sky Sport Federico Ferri explains it with these words, interviewed during the presentation of the new season of the Champions League on Sky.

«This year we will see the introduction of two important technological innovations», Ferri explains. «The first is the goal line technology, which will help referees to decide if the ball has totally crossed the line or not. The second is the semi-automatic offside, which will allow the referees to verify more quickly and precisely if a player is offside or not».

Innovation and quality in storytelling

These innovations are part of a broader project aimed at improving the quality of the Champions League coverage on Sky. «We want to offer our viewers the best possible experience, both in terms of image quality and commentary», Ferri says. «We have invested heavily in new technologies, but we have also focused on the quality of our storytelling. We have a team of expert commentators who will accompany the viewers throughout the matches, providing them with insights and analysis».

The Champions League is the most important club competition in Europe, and Sky is the only broadcaster in Italy that offers all the matches live and exclusively. The competition will start on September 6 and will end on June 10, 2023. The final will be played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
