China's Space Program Achieves Lunar Milestone, Detects Negative Ions on Moon's Far Side
ESA Probe Provides Scientific Insights
Beijing, January 12, 2023
In a groundbreaking scientific achievement, China's Change-6 spacecraft, in collaboration with an ESA probe, has successfully detected negative ions on the far side of the Moon, the first time such ions have been observed in this region.
Upon landing in the South Pole-Aitken Basin, the ESA scientific instrument aboard the spacecraft adjusted its settings and detected negative ions originating from solar winds bombarding the Moon's surface. These negative ions are significant as they provide valuable insights into the space environment and the formation of the Moon.
